Top Tech Highlights

Meta is adding new safety features to child-focused Instagram accounts run by adults

Meta is extending its teen safety measures to Instagram accounts featuring children that are managed by adults, aiming to protect them from predators. Updates include stricter message settings, automatic filtering tools, limited discoverability, and removal of suspicious users—part of a broader crackdown that has already led to over 635,000 account deletions this year

Amazon acquires Bee, the AI wearable that records everything you say

Amazon is acquiring AI wearables startup Bee, known for its low-cost bracelet and Apple Watch app that generates reminders and to-do lists, although the deal hasn’t officially closed. The acquisition signals Amazon’s strategic push into wearable AI tech beyond its Echo smart speakers.

User privacy app Cloaked adds AI-powered caller screening

Cloaked, a Lux Capital-backed identity protection app, has launched AI-powered features—including Call Guard for screening unknown callers and a dark web monitor that scans for leaked personal data across various platforms. Unlike generic tools from Apple and Google, Cloaked aims to boost user retention through personalized AI interactions and plans to expand into outbound call handling and eSIM offerings.

Windows 11’s new update will add a bunch of AI features

Microsoft is rolling out new AI features for Windows 11, including Copilot Vision, which lets users ask questions about anything on their screen and receive guidance across apps and tasks. Copilot Plus PC users gain even more tools, such as a natural language-powered Settings agent, enhanced Click to Do actions for summarizing content, document drafting, meeting scheduling, and using the Reading Coach for fluency practice.

AI chatbots remain overconfident—even when they're wrong, study finds

A new study revealed that while both humans and AI chatbots are often overconfident in tasks like trivia and image recognition, only humans tend to recalibrate their confidence after performing. Large language models such as ChatGPT and Gemini not only failed to adjust expectations retroactively, but sometimes became more overconfident, posing a challenge for users who may overly trust confidently delivered yet inaccurate AI responses.

What You Really Need to Know

AI is Getting Smarter–So Should Your Privacy Game

As AI gets more deeply woven into our everyday lives—from the apps we use to the wearables we wear—so does the need for stronger safety and privacy guardrails. Meta’s cracking down on predators targeting kid-focused Instagram accounts, Cloaked is helping users dodge spammy calls and leaked data, and Amazon’s stepping into always-on audio with Bee. It’s all a reminder that while tech gets smarter, we must get sharper about how we interact with it.

AI tools are getting more powerful and more personal, but that also means they’re collecting more about us. With great power comes great responsibility. We need to be aware of what we’re opting into, and have open discourse over safety and regulations both at work and at home. At Quantious, we have strict security guidelines, and are always talking about ways to be better protected. This is a shared responsibility across our team, and we hope other companies are having the same conversations!
