Turning a website audit into a prioritized roadmap for growth
Our client was relying on their website to support business development across commercial and government markets, as well as attract prospective employees. However, the experience wasn’t working equally well for all three audiences.
Important information was difficult to find, audience pathways weren’t always clear, and the firm’s capabilities and value weren’t consistently explained. Quantious was brought in to identify the gaps and give them a practical, prioritized path forward—without completely redesigning the existing site.
The Challenge
The technical firm knew there was room for improvement with their website, but they weren’t sure which updates would actually make a difference in driving results.
The firm has three priority audiences: commercial buyers, government buyers, and prospective employees—this is a challenge in that the website needs to resonate with all three distinct groups. With different needs, questions, priorities, and proof points they’re hoping to see, each group is coming to the site with different expectations. Between missing information, unclear messaging, insufficient context, and more, the website didn’t always make the distinction between these audiences clear.
Completely overhauling the website would have been a big (and unnecessary) lift, but narrowing the focus to identify issues page by page would also miss the bigger picture. What the firm needed was an assessment that would look at the website as a whole to identify underlying gaps in messaging, navigation, audience differentiation, and more—that’s where Quantious comes in.
Our Approach
To get started, Quantious wanted to dig deeper to understand the full context behind the site, what was most important to communicate, and what the firm was hoping to achieve. Building on findings from our previous Brand & Competitive 360 work with the firm, we decided to evaluate the website through the eyes of its three priority audiences.
This audience-first lens allowed us to look beyond whether individual pages were technically functional and focus instead on whether visitors could find what mattered to them. We assessed the site based on:
Navigation
Messaging
Audience differentiation
Content gaps
Credibility signals
User experience
SEO/GEO fundamentals
After gathering our findings, we organized our insights by audience so the firm could see what the issues were, who each issue impacted, and why it mattered.
From there, we provided recommendations, separating quick wins from larger initiatives based on the potential impact and required effort. The goal was to provide enough clarity for the firm to determine which edits to prioritize with their existing development and SEO partners, as well as understand where future strategic support might be valuable.
The Impact
The firm now has a clear, prioritized roadmap of recommendations that can help them make future website decisions based on audience needs, potential impact, and level of effort. We distinguished quick copy and content improvements from initiatives that require development, SEO, or broader strategic support, making it easier for the firm to decide next steps.
This project reinforced the idea that not every website problem requires a website redesign. In this case, redesigning the site visually wouldn’t have addressed the issue at hand—the firm’s three audiences needed a way to quickly and easily understand whether the firm’s capabilities and experience would meet their needs.
Rather than giving a website a new look and feel, sometimes the higher-value work is to truly understand the challenge with what already exists and improve it. By grounding recommendations in distinct audience needs—and separating immediate opportunities from larger investments—the firm can evolve its site intentionally and tackle suggestions as they see fit.
